Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

What Is Childhood Obesity Awareness Month?

September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, a CDC initiative designed to raise awareness of the growing childhood obesity epidemic in the United States. One in 3 children in the U.S. is overweight or obese. Childhood obesity puts kids at risk for health problems that were once seen only in adults, like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and even heart disease. The good news? Childhood obesity can be prevented! Communities, health professionals and families can work together to create opportunities for kids to eat healthier and get more active.

Check back later this year for information about the free events and activities LiveFit Southlake will be offering to help children and families get moving for a healthier fall!

In the meantime, we invite you to try one of Southlake Parks and Recreation's many youth athletic leagues and programs, including our Kids Yoga and Mindfulness course.
