Healthy Holiday Eating

How I’m keeping Thanksgiving happy and healthy this year!

Staying consistent with my usual exercise routine (except for Thanksgiving Day).

Cooking a few things ahead of time so we can enjoy a movie or game night together the night before Thanksgiving

Making healthy food swaps:

  • Instead of brown rice, I am using cauliflower rice in my Broccoli Rice Casserole
  • A few years ago, I started swapping Green Bean Casserole for green beans almondine. This is super easy - just steam fresh or frozen whole green beans then toss in a skillet with chopped onions, garlic, nitrate-free bacon pieces, season, and top with sliced almonds
  • I love to cut up sweet potatoes and roast in my air fryer. I sprinkle these with cinnamon and monk fruit sweetener instead of the usual marshmallow topping casserole
  • There are so many options now to reduce the heavy carb sides – I use mashed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes (or you could just have a small serving of regular mashed potatoes)
  • Make fresh cranberry sauce and use stevia or monk fruit to sweeten
  • Limiting the amount of desserts for Thanksgiving Day
  • Taking time to sit and enjoy quality time with family
  • Going for a walk/jog on Thanksgiving morning and getting my family out for an afternoon turkey trot
